Research activities in the Centre for Compassionate Conservation cover diverse fields. Core research in wildlife conservation and ecology focussed on human and more-than-human entanglements is complemented with research areas including environmental and animal law, ethics, economics, decision theory, and the social sciences.
- Human-wildlife interactions
- Conservation of species and their habitats
- Welfare of captive and wild animals
- Handling of wild animals for research and management
- Trade in live wildlife or their parts
- Conservation decision-making
- Introduced species and their ecologies
- Ethics in conservation and research
- Exploitation and persecution of wildlife
The Centre focuses on research projects that fill gaps in knowledge and have a practical focus on improving welfare outcomes for wildlife. Our research is geared to captive and wild animals that are facing pressures from commercial exploitation, human-wildlife conflicts, land clearance, and habitat loss.
