About us

What we do

The Centre supports the advancement and unification of animal welfare and conservation by providing leadership in the area of compassionate conservation to address the critical challenges facing conservation practitioners and policy makers. We focus on challenges such as species conservation, human-wildlife conflict, wildlife trade, animal law, development futures, and the welfare of wild and captive animals.

We conduct cross-disciplinary research and engage in teaching programs to grow new knowledge in the field of compassionate conservation to influence contemporary conservation initiatives. We collaborate with expert academics and NGOs to find holistic and innovative solutions to complex environmental problems that can benefit both human society and wild animals. We strive to be world leaders in peer-reviewed research that relates to conservation practice and policy, explicitly addressing the welfare of individual animals alongside other objectives.
