To complement our work with community based organisations, the UTS Shopfront have developed an exciting social leadership and volunteering program called the UTS: SOUL award.
SOUL - Social Outcomes through University Leadership - trains university students in skills that are integral to successful community engagement, including leadership, social issues, active communication and project management.
In the SOUL Award, students complete 100 hours of volunteering and training across the course of their degree, focussing on local community organisations. Upon graduation, students completing SOUL recieve official recognition on their Australian Higher Education Graduate Statement.
UTS Shopfront uses its extensive community networks and partner organisations to provide volunteering opportunities for students. In this way it is able to extend and further develop its community-engaged activities.
SOUL students are a diverse bunch, both undergraduate and postgraduate, and coming from all faculties. With over 1700 hundred students involved (and growing!) SOUL is an exciting place to be!
If you are a student interested in participating in this Award, head over to www.soul.uts.edu.au for more information. If you are a community organisation looking to recruit volunteers to your organisations, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 9514 2918.
