What is the Sandpit?

The Sandpit is an early copy of the new student administration system.  As the name suggests, it is an environment where users can play, explore and learn about the functionality of the system in a safe and secure way.

The Sandpit will be running against a database containing current and some historical student data, which has been scrambled to protect the privacy of student information. The curriculum data on the database was taken from SAS in May 2002.  Please note that we are still refining the system through testing and configuration.

Sandpit users will have broad access to many functions.  You may, however, have a more restricted access when the system goes live later this year.  Formal system training will be also provided for all system users.

Who can play?

Sandpit users must have first attended a basic training / familiarisation session.   If you would like some refresher training, please contact the project team (Sharon.Grunwald@uts.edu.au; 9514-7855).

Helping you play

Basic reference material

To help you get started, we have put together some basic reference material and exercises on UTSOnline (http://online.uts.edu.au).  Your log-in is: username: (your staff ID number); password (first two letters of your surname in capitals, followed by staff ID number).

Your queries, feedback & suggestions

We have also set up a sandpit discussion board on UTSOnline.  Please use this to provide feedback, ask questions, make suggestions, report any data concerns and/or discuss the sandpit with other users.

Technical Help

Just like the real system, you will access the sandpit on CITRIX, which is accessible through your web browser. We are still testing and fine-tuning the environment, so please be mindful that problems will arise from time to time.  We may need to take the system offline on some occasions – this will be noted on the web page through which you access the sandpit.

If you require help with connecting to your Citrix Client, logging into Student One or you have system errors please log these with itsc@uts.edu.au.  When you log your call, please provide the following information:

Product:             Student One

Call Type:             Citrix Client:               For Citrix client installation or problems

                        Functionality:                For functionality problems/queries

                        Logins:                            For login requests/changes/problems

Setting up data

One protocol to help manage your data on the sandpit is to set up and play with student data using your surname for the student name.

Thank you for participating in The Sandpit

ENJOY!
