UTSpeaks: Weigh Too Fat
Aside from media panic, how will we find solutions to Australia's growing obesity?

May 22nd 2008

Reports from health experts have fuelled the media, policy makers and politicians to paint obesity as an epidemic, the most important health issue facing Australia and a crisis for health care services. But is all as it seems?

This public lecture explores the complexities leading to overweight and obesity in the community, offering insights on the combination of strategies that could be considered for its treatment and possible new pathways for essential research.

Introduced by Professor Sally Redman,
Chief Executive Officer of the The Sax Institute, a coalition of universities and research centres supporting partnerships between researchers and health policy and service delivery agencies in NSW.

Marion Haas
Marion Haas is a Deputy Director of the UTS Centre for Health Economics Research and Evaluation and an Associate Professor of Health Services Research. She is also a Co-Director of the Australian Technology Network Centre for Metabolic Fitness, a multi-university collaboration undertaking wide ranging research and evaluation projects on obesity and metabolic syndrome.
