UTS appoints new Deputy Vice-Chancellor [Teaching, Learning and Equity]

The University of Technology, Sydney today announced an appointment to the University's senior executive group.
Professor Shirley Alexander has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor [Teaching, Learning and Equity]. Professor Alexander is presently Dean of the Faculty of Education at UTS.
UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Ross Milbourne said the appointment was an important element in positioning the University to meet new challenges in the higher education sector.
"Professor Alexander brings a wealth of experience and energy to the teaching and learning portfolio," Professor Milbourne said.
"Her extensive credentials in leadership and quality management of teaching and learning, curriculum development and academic planning will be of significant benefit to UTS. In recent years, Shirley's senior education management experience has been recognised, both domestically and internationally, through extensive appointments, research grants and many major international speaking engagements."
"Aside from an international reputation in teaching and learning, Professor Alexander is a leader in building strategies using information and communication technologies. She has had extensive experience in the development and management of new media technologies that has already been of considerable benefit to UTS."
Professor Alexander joined UTS in 1992 as a lecturer with the Centre for Learning and Teaching. In 1995, she became Director of the Institute of Interactive Media and Learning, a position she continues to hold. In May 2005, Professor Alexander took up her present role as Dean of the Faculty of Education.
Professor Alexander will commence her new position in early 2007.
