UTS lights up Broadway with music and dance

The all-singing, all-dancing version of the University of Technology, Sydney will be on show from Monday to Thursday next week for the annual celebration of the university's cultural life, the in-fusion festival.

Presented jointly by the University and UTS Union, in-fusion is an international festival of food, music and dance bringing together local and international students, university staff and the wider community.

UTS student and staff talent will share the stage with top Sydney and national acts with the emphasis on diversity - a cultural crossroads where gypsy punk will meet Latin funk and Bollywood will mix it with cabaret, classical and choral.

On the bill is Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication student Shell Heaven Lee who is no stranger to a bit of limelight.

The 22 year-old singer-songwriter-keyboardist, originally from the NSW Central Coast, has been recording since she was in her teens and has earned radio airplay and industry plaudits for her songs Choose Me and Utopia Girl. She is due to release an album this month.

Other students stepping into the spotlight for in-fusion include Law PhD student and Balinese dance performer Miranda Ayu and accomplished classical pianist Michelle Cheung, who is studying for a combined Bachelor of Medical Science and Bachelor of Law degree.

Among the visitors for in-fusion is hot Latin-funk-hip hop combo Watussi. Led by Colombian-born Oscar Jimenez, the high-energy seven piece has been dubbed one of the most exciting live acts to come out of Sydney.

The level 3 concourse of the UTS Tower will be the focus of daytime activity, which will include international market days on Tuesday and Wednesday.
