Andrew Cashin has been appointed Associate Professor of Nursing in Justice Health by UTS in partnership with the NSW statutory health corporation Justice Health.
Professor Cashin will contribute to the ongoing development of health services provided to individuals who find themselves within the NSW criminal justice system and increase awareness of this area as a career pathway for nurses.
Apart from working collaboratively with medical, nursing and allied health staff to ensure appropriate advice and support is available, Professor Cashin will also have close educational links with the UTS Faculty of Nursing Midwifery and Health.
Professor Cashin said he would contribute to ongoing course development in the Faculty, teaching and learning activities, research and growing partnerships with the faculty that could assist in leading to employment opportunities for graduates.
"Health service provision within the criminal justice arena goes largely unnoticed," Professor Cashin said.
"This role will give me the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of career pathways within justice health nursing and present it as a rewarding career option for nursing graduates."
"The chance to work in partnership with NSW Justice Health, a world leader in justice health, is very exciting."
