Sandy Hollway, Chair of the NSW Advisory Committee for the International Year of Volunteers has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor by the University of Technology, Sydney.
Professor Hollway will be associated with the UTS Business Faculty, and in particular, the School of Leisure, Sport and Tourism. One of his roles will be to provide advice and counsel to the University for sport management activities it has underway in China.
UTS Dean of Business Professor Peter Booth said Professor Hollway's experience as Chief Executive Officer of the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) would make a huge contribution to UTS.
"We are fortunate to be able to draw on the extraordinary knowledge and contacts that Professor Hollway has in relation to the Olympics, the sporting world and in volunteer and event management," Professor Booth said.
"Professor Hollway will be involved in conducting public lectures, contributing to projects being initiated by himself and UTS staff, and helping UTS create links with Olympic organisations that have an interest in scholarship, such as the International Olympic Academy."
Since finishing as CEO for SOCOG, Professor Hollway has been engaged in a range of consultancies in Australia and overseas for government and the private sector.
UTS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tony Blake said Professor Hollway would support UTS in its commitment to fostering links with national and international bodies that had a synergy with UTS teaching and research.
"It is a privilege to have someone of Professor Hollway's calibre become associated with the University, and students and staff alike stand to benefit from the global vision he will bring," Professor Blake said.
Prior to joining SOCOG in 1997 Professor Hollway was Secretary of the Department of Employment, Education and Training and Youth Affairs.
He has held several other key senior Federal Government departmental positions and was Chief of Staff for Prime Minister Bob Hawke between 1988 and 1990.
