University of Technology, Sydney is committed to an exciting new master plan to create a vibrant, revitalised and sustainable City Campus on the edge of the Sydney Central Business District at Ultimo. Recent completion of the former Fairfax building is the first stage in setting this master plan in motion.
The original Fairfax building was home to the Sydney Morning Herald and later the headquarters of the Sydney Organising Committee of the Olympic Games.
When the Games finished, UTS took over the Fairfax building and has since transformed its huge six-storey podium into a spectacular teaching facility for the Faculties of Information Technology and Education. UTS Human Resources, Financial Services and Facilities Management also now occupy the building.
Completely remodelled and renovated, a marvellous glassed atrium slices its way through the centre of the six levels of the building's podium, providing spectacular natural lighting. Bridges of steel, glass and recycled timber traverse the atrium on each floor linking offices and student areas and complement the modern and dramatic visual effects of the entire space.
Student lecture theatres, computer labs, study areas and lounge areas are contemporary, stylish and balanced by a selection of eateries, a cafe and shops on the ground-floor street-style concourse.
