Milbourne appointed UTS Deputy Vice-Chancellor - Academic
Professor Milbourne

Professor Ross David Milbourne has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) with the University of Technology, Sydney.

Professor Milbourne commences at UTS in July, following the retirement of the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Brian Low.

Professor Milbourne has forged a distinguished academic career and joins UTS following recent positions as Pro-Vice-Chancellor with the University of New South Wales and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Adelaide.

As Professor of Economics with the University of New South Wales he served on two occasions as Head of the School.

He has been a member of the Australian Research Council (ARC) and was Chair of the ARC Research Grants Committee for three years.

Professor Milbourne said his research interests mostly focused on macroeconomics and the mathematical modelling and statistical testing of macroeconomic theories.

"Since 1990 my research has focused on economic growth in open economies which allow free international movement of goods and capital," he said.

"I have been able to relate some of my key recent work to higher education policy in Australia by examining the effect of government funding cuts on research productivity.

"I believe UTS has great potential and will be immensely pleased to contribute to the bold steps it is taking within higher education."
