The former Fairfax headquarters, a landmark building on the southern edge of the Sydney CBD, is about to undergo a transformation with the announcement a significant re-construction project which will turn it into a modern, state-of-the-art facility for UTS.
Leading Australian construction company, Baulderstone Hornibrook, has signed a contract with the University to remodel and refurbish the former newspaper office block into a sophisticated university campus building for the 21st Century. Property services company CRI has been appointed by the University to project manage the re-construction.
Information Technology and Education students will begin using the new UTS Broadway facility next year. The project represents the first stage of the Campus Development Plan which will result in the redevelopment of the UTS City Campus over the next five years.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tony Blake said the building would be completely redesigned, providing a modern, open and pleasant teaching and recreation space for students and staff. A naturally lit atrium will be cut through the middle of the building, opening it up and changing its character.
"Not only will the latest building developments be used to create the environment but also world-class technology will deliver a superb learning facility for students," Professor Blake said.
New open green space will also be created.
"UTS is pursuing significant developments over the next 10 years which will provide for an increase in student demand. These physical developments will allow us to continue to improve our facilities for students and see the creation of a true city campus," said Professor Blake.
