English language proficiency requirements

If your previous education was taught in English, an official document from your institution certifying that the medium of instruction was English must be sent along with your application.

If your previous education was not conducted in English, you are required to demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English comprehension and expression by completing an English language test and achieved the required score.

If you are from Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden or the Netherlands you are eligible to apply using alternative means of language assessment. Please download the UTS English Language Proficiency Assessment (doc, 143kb) for the application form. Students from this group may be required to complete a subject in English for academic purposes during their first semester at UTS.

Special consideration for English language requirements may be given to students who have completed Advanced level High School English studies, and have achieved one of the following English results:

  • Denmark : High School Leaving Certificate score of "9" (on the 13 point scale) or a score of “7” (on the 7 point scale) or better for English.
  • Germany : Arbitur score of "3" (on a 6 point scale) or a score of “7” (on a 15 point scale) or better in all advanced English studies. German students must also achieve 4 scores of "B" or better in the DAAD Certificate of Proficiency in English.
  • Norway : High School Leaving Certificate (Vitnemal): score of "4" or better for English
  • Sweden : High School Leaving Certificate (Slutbetyg): score of "VG" or better for English

Students who have achieved any of these above English results are not required to provide an English language test result. If you are from one of these countries you should provide a certified copy of your final high school grades with your study abroad application.
