Australian Development Scholarships
The Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) scheme is funded by the Australian Government through the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). ADS provides opportunities for candidates from developing countries in Asia and Pacific regions to undertake full time study in Australian tertiary and technical institutions, including the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS).
ADS aims to contribute towards the long term development of Australia's partner countries in the Asia and Pacific regions. The targeted fields of study under the ADS differs from country to country and are determined by the recipient countries human resource and development needs and in accordance with Australia's bilateral aid program.
There are two categories of ADS:
- Public - for public sector employees nominated by their governments
- Open or Equity - for citizens of the developing member countries who meet the ADS selection criteria.

IDP Student Mobility Scholarships
IDP Education Australia Ltd announced a range of scholarships which are intended to provide access to international education.
In second semester 2008 UTS will decide the category of IDP Student Mobility Scholarships which we will target for 2009. These decisions shall be published here once made.

Australian Leadership Awards (ALA)
The Australian Leadership Awards are open to individuals from countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The ALA targets individuals who have the potential to assume leadership roles and who can influence social and economic development in their countries.
The field of studies suitable for the ALA awards must relate to the priority issues in the Asia-Pacific regions. Currently these include:
- international trade
- public health issues
- security
- climate change, including clean energy.
UTS offers the relevant courses targeted under the ALA scheme. There is more information on UTS courses.
The maximum value of the ALA scholarship is A$100,000 for a postgraduate master's program and A$190,000 for a doctorate program. The benefits of the ALA include: full tuition fees, visa fees, health insurance, living allowance, return airfare, Introductory Academic Program (provided by the designated institution including UTS), and leadership training.

Australian Partnership Scholarships (APS)
The Australian Partnership Scholarships (APS) program was established by the Australian Government as part of the Australia Indonesia Partnership for Reconstruction and Development. Hence this scholarship program is only open to Indonesian students who wish to undertake postgraduate coursework studies in the areas of economic governance, public sector management and education. These postgraduate courses are available at UTS. There is more information on UTS courses.
The APS program will end in December 2009 and application for 2008 has closed.
Council for Australia-Arab Relations (CAAR) Scholarship
The Council for Australia-Arab Relations was established in 2003 to strengthen ties between Australia and Arab countries. CAAR is sponsoring a limited number of short term scholarships for postgraduate students from Arab League countries to study in Australia. The Scholarship provides costs of university course fees for postgraduate students to undertake short term coursework programs of 3-6 months.

Endeavour Postgraduate Awards
The Endeavour Postgraduate Awards enable international students to undertake a Masters by coursework in Australia. These Awards, funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR)provide full financial support for international students for up to 2 years. The aim of the program is to strengthen bilateral ties between Australia and participating countries. The Endeavour program website has more information.
The Peace Scholarship
The Peace Scholarship is funded by UTS and INSEARCH in collaboration and partnership with IDP. Two postgraduate scholarships will be available per year for the next three years (2007-2010) in the area of good governance and health professional practice. Currently the eligible applicants must come from Afghanistan, India, Indonesia and Mexico. The program aims to show the importance of cultural diversities and promote international understanding and global peace.
The Peace Scholarships provide tuition fees for up to two semesters studies and if necessary, up to 50 weeks of intensive English language course provided by INSEARCH. The Scholarship also provides living allowance which will be funded by IDP.

Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (Endeavour IPRS)
The Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships program is also funded by the Australian Government, Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). The objective of the Endeavour IPRS is to maintain and develop international research linkages and to attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas of research strength within Australian tertiary institutions.
At UTS, the research strengths are at the forefront of change, developing innovative solutions to real world problems. These strengths fall under the areas of Science and Technology and Society and Culture.
The EIPRS is extremely competitive. UTS currently awards two EIPRS per year. Application deadline is 1 September.
To be considered for the Endeavour IPRS, you must qualify to commence a Higher Research Degree (HDR) at UTS in the year for which the EIPRS is awarded.

Endeavour Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Awards
The Endeavour Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Awards scheme provides opportunities for high achievers to undertake research studies and or research collaboration in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Scholarships are open to all fields of research study available in tertiary institutions across Australia, including UTS. Applications can be made online or application forms can be downloaded from the Endeavour Program website . Candidates applying for one of these Awards are advised to apply and gain admission to a research degree program at UTS before submitting their application for the Endeavour Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Awards.
Alternatively, if you wish to undertake a research collaboration with one or more of UTS academic experts in the chosen field is intended you must obtain approval or agreement from the relevant academic or academics before coming to UTS. The Endeavour Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Awards include:
- Endeavour Postgraduate Awards - The Endeavour Postgraduate Awards are 1-3 years in duration. These Awards are for postgraduate study/research leading to Australian Masters or PhD. The maximum value of the Award is $160,000. Up to 65 Awards (21 for Masters and 44 for PhDs) are available across Australia each year.
- Endeavour Research Fellowships - The duration of the Endeavour Research Fellowships is between 4 to 6 months. These Awards can be used for field research or research collaboration in Australia towards a Masters degree or PhD in home country. Alternatively, they can support postdoctoral research in Australia. The maximum value of each Fellowship is $25,000 and there are 166 of such Fellowships available per year. More information is avaialble from the Endeavour fellowship website
- Endeavour Europe Awards. The duration of each Endeavour Europe Awards is 4 months - 1 year. The maximum value of each Award is $50,000. These Awards can be used for fieldwork research or research collaboration in Australia towards a Masters degree or PhD in home country. There are 15 Awards available each year. - Endeavour Malaysia Awards. The duration of the Endeavour Malaysia Awards is between 4 months to 1 year. These Awards are for postgraduate study/research leading to Australian Masters or can be used for fieldwork research or research collaboration in Australia towards a Masters degree or PhD in Malaysia. The maximum value of each scholarship is $50,000 and there are 3 Awards available each year. More information is available from the Endeavour Asia website
- Endeavour Awards for Turkey. The duration of the Endeavour Awards for Turkey is between 4 months to 1 year. These Awards are for postgraduate study/research leading to Australian Masters or can be used for fieldwork research or research collaboration in Australia towards a Masters degree or PhD in Turkey. The maximum value of each scholarship is $50,000 and there are 4 Awards available each year. More information is available from the Endeavour Middle East website
- Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowships. The duration of the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowship is between 4 to 6 months. These Awards can be used for fieldwork research or research collaboration in Australia towards a Masters degree or PhD in home country. Alternatively, they can support postdoctoral research in Australia. The maximum value of each Fellowship is $25,000. Eligible applicants must come from China, including Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. More information is available from the Endeavour Asia website
Home Governments and Home Institutions Scholarships
Many students who have been sponsored by their home Government study at UTS. Home Government Scholarship normally covers tuition fees, health insurance, living allowance, other incidental expenses as well as return travel expenses.
Interested students should check their Government education, training and public sector websites for information on available scholarship opportunities.
The Sponsored Students Team at UTS liaises with various Government sponsors concerning applications of students who have been selected to receive scholarships or sponsorship and provides assistance to all sponsored students during their studies at UTS.
Many undergraduate and postgraduate students sponsored by Home Governments and or Home Institutions are studying at UTS.
UTS Research Scholarships
UTS President's Scholarships (UTSP)
UTS awards a limited number of living allowance scholarship, payable as fortnightly stipend, to the highest ranked Endeavour IPRS recipients. The value of the UTSP, currently approximately $19,600 per annum, will be equal to the value of an Australian Postgraduate Award offered to Australian students by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). The UTSP is not transferable to another institution.
All Endeavour IPRS applicants will be considered for the UTSP and no separate application is required.
UTS Faculty Scholarships
UTS: Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering recognizes its international high achievers in both its undergraduate and postgraduate programs by offering scholarships, payable as international student fees reduction.
All inquries must be directed to the Faculty of Engineering via their scholarships website.
Study Abroad Achievement Scholarship is offered once per semester worth A$1,000 to the highest achiever during their first semester as a Study Abroad (undergraduate or postgraduate) student. The scholarship will be paid towards the student's second semester fee.
UTS: Information Technology
The Faculty of Information Technology will be offering Dean's ACS Foundation Scholarships to local and international undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students. Each scholarship is worth $3,000 and will be awarded in two installments of $1,500 each. Only currently enrolled international students are eligible to be considered for these scholarships.

UTS: Faculty of Law
The Faculty of Law offers two scholarships: UTS Law Foundation Scholarship and Eric Dreikurs Scholarship. Enrolled undergraduate law international students are eligible to apply for these scholarships. For further information refer to the UTS Scholarship website.
UTS Union Sports Scholarships Program
The UTS Union Sports Scholarship Program assists UTS athletes to combine High Performance Sport and Tertiary Education. Once enrolled with UTS, international students who excel as athletes have the opportunity to apply for this scholarship, which includes cash grants depending on level, free use of the UTS Union Fitness Centre and subsidised fees when competing for UTS in University Sporting Competitions.
