Academic entry requirements

Detailed below are the academic entry requirements for entry to UTS, into:


Undergraduate coursework

For entry into undergraduate coursework at UTS you require a competitive Pass in a recognised matriculation examination equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification.

A general guide of competitive results in a number of international qualifications accepted for entry into undergraduate coursework at UTS are provided in approximate international entry scores - undergraduate coursework.

Those who successfully complete a recognised pathway program are also eligible to apply.

Additional requirements:

  1. Bachelor of Design (Fashion and Textile, Industrial, Interior, Visual Communication): You must submit a portfolio and personal statement.
  2. UTS: Communication undergraduate courses: You must submit a personal statement.

Undergraduate honours coursework

You require a relevant Bachelor's degree. You must also demonstrate the potential to undertake research and submit a brief research proposal which should have been discussed with an appropriate UTS staff member.

Postgraduate coursework

For admission into most postgraduate courses, you are required to hold a recognised Bachelor's degree equivalent to an Australian Bachelor's degree. Your academic performance at the Bachelor's level will be considered as part of your application assessment. In some instances, you may also require relevant work experience and/or research experience.

Additional requirements:

  1. Master of Design: You must submit a portfolio of between 5 to 10 pieces of your own work.
  2. Master of Arts in Music Therapy: You must submit a supplementary application form.
  3. UTS: Communication postgraduate courses: You must submit a personal statement.
  4. Interactive Multimedia postgraduate courses: You must submit a supplementary application form. (pdf, 42kb)

Postgraduate research degrees

Doctoral Programs

You are generally required to hold the equivalent of a relevant Master's or Bachelor's degree with First or Second Class Honours (Division 1). You must demonstrate the potential to undertake research and submit a brief research proposal after discussion with an appropriate UTS staff member.

If you do not qualify for entry at the doctoral level, you may be accepted initially at the Master's level and allowed to transfer to the doctoral program after one year provided that you have been able to demonstrate your capacity for doctoral-level study.

Master's research programs

You are generally required to hold the equivalent of a relevant Bachelor's degree. For Master's level research programs offered by UTS: Communication, the equivalent of a relevant Bachelor's degree with Honours is required. You must also demonstrate the potential to undertake research and submit a brief research proposal after discussion with an appropriate UTS staff member.

Hong Kong Advanced Level Exam with 3 advanced level passes at the same sitting or 3 GCE A level passes in the same sitting.

Successful completion of the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (CBSE) with overall grade in best 4 academic subjects where A1=5, A2=4.5, B1=3.5, B2=3.0, C1=2.0, C2=1.5, D1=1, D2=0.5. In the India School Certificate Year 12 exam or the Higher Secondary Certificate from the Indian State Boards, an average of the academic subject results to meet the required entry score.

Indonesia

Completion of at least one full-time year at Bachelor's degree level at a recognised university or tertiary institution.

International Baccalaureate

Award of the full International Baccalaureate Diploma where the total aggregate score including bonus and penalty points meets entry standard.

Jordan

Completion of at least one full-time year at Bachelor's degree level at a recognised university or tertiary institution.

Sri Lanka

Completion of the Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education (GCE) with 3 Advanced level passes at the same sitting.

Sweden

Successful completion of the final high school examination.

A Junior/Community College Diploma or Senior Higher School Diploma plus completion of at least one full-time year at Bachelor's degree level at a recognised university or tertiary institution.

Thailand

Completion of at least one full-time year at Bachelor's degree level at a recognised university or tertiary institution.

Completion of at least one full-time year at Bachelor's degree level at a recognised university or tertiary institution.

United Kingdom

GCE A Levels - 3 Advanced level passes at the same sitting or 2 Advanced and 2 Supplementary level passes at the same sitting.

USA

Successful completion of the US High School Diploma plus either successful completion of:

  1. SAT 1 (Total of Critical Reading, Mathematical and Writing scores) at competitive standards
  2. An approved associateship at a Community/Junior College

UTS also accepts Diplomas/Advanced Diplomas from TAFE and other selected colleges, as well as most Australian foundation studies programs.

Footnote

Calculation of scores for advanced level examinations held in Hong Kong, Singapore, UK and the STPM in Malaysia, this does not apply to the Sri Lankan A Levels:

  • Scores for the Advanced levels are calculated on the basis that:
    A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1 and must include results in at least 3 subjects at Advanced level or the equivalent at Advanced Supplementary level in the same sitting.
  • Advanced Supplementary level results may be included in the aggregate and contribute the equivalent of half of a subject taken at Advanced level A=2.5, B=2, C=1.5, D=1, E=0.5.
