Steps to applying as an international student at UTS

There are different steps for applying for:
- International students doing Year 12 exams in Australia
- International exchange students coming to UTS
- International exchange students going from UTS
- Study abroad students coming to UTS
Step 1: Select your course preferences
Choose course preferences that you wish to study, and the semester you would like to commence your studies:
You may apply to UTS at any time. The closing dates for applications for particular semesters are as follows:
- Autumn semester (March) - 15 December
- Spring semester (August) - 15 June
Late applications will not be accepted.
It is best to apply early to allow yourself plenty of time to organise your student visa to study at UTS.
Step 2: Complete application form
There are two ways of submitting an UTS International application:
Option 1: Submit a UTS International online application
Select the course you wish to study from the course listing. On the course details page choose to apply now. Follow instructions to register and submit an online application directly to UTS International.
If you have already submitted an application, via the UTS Online Application System, then click on this link to enter the UTS Online Application System directly.
Option 2: Complete hardcopy application form

Hardcopy application forms must be completed using a black pen, with clear printing.
You must sign your application form. Application forms signed by a UTS representative or by proxy will not be processed.
You need the Adobe Acrobat Reader (opens an external site) to view these PDF files.
Admission to UTS courses is competitive, the application is not an enrolment form, nor does it guarantee admission.
An incomplete application will result in delays in processing.
Step 3: Attach supporting documentation
All applications require supporting documents to be submitted to UTS.
The actual support documentation required depends on the applicant, and the type of study they are applying to do.
- Academic transcript,
include a certified copies of your academic records. - English language proficiency,
include a certified copy of your English test score if required. - If you are applying for recognition of prior learning,
a completed application form. - Details of exclusion (or possible exclusions) from a course on academic or other grounds
- Details of relevant work experience,
including certified copies of references from your employer on company letterhead, if required. - Supporting Statement or portfolio
if required - Details of disability or ongoing medical condition that will require you to seek special assistance from the University
attach a medical statement from a registered doctor - If you are applying for a postgraduate research degree, please contact the relevant University research staff member to ensure that UTS can supervise your intended research topic.
Your application must include:- Research Plan - detailing research objectives, example of your key literature in your area of interest and a broad outline of the sequence and timing of work that you plan to do.
- Referees Report - you must have two referees complete referee reports.
Documents that are not in English must be officially translated and submitted together with certified copies of supporting documents.
UTS cannot consider your application if all required supporting documentation is not attached.
Applicant submitting online applications can attached copies of their supporting documentation to their online application. It is still necessary for the original copies to be submitted to UTS.
Certified Copies of Supporting Documentation
UTS will accept copies certified by employees of one of the following:
- Australian Education Centre
- Australian Overseas Diplomatic Mission
- UTS Authorised Representative or Agent
- Public Notary Office
- The Administration of the Institution which issued the relevant document
- An Australian University
Documents certified by a Justice of the Peace will not be accepted.
Step 4: Application fee
A non refundable application fee of A$100 is payable with most applications.
The application fee will only be waived if one of the following conditions apply:
- the application was submitted to a UTS representative at a UTS international event.
- you are a current UTS student
- you are a current INSEARCH student
Payment of the application fee can be made in the following ways:
- Cheques and bank drafts
made payable to the University of Technology Sydney - UTS International - credit card
Visa, Mastercard or Amex card by completing the credit card payment form (PDF* 24K) - BPay
online applications only
Step 5: Submitting application, application fee and supporting documentation
Your application, application fee, and supporting documentation must be submitted to UTS.
In person:

You can submit your application to one of the many UTS Representative worldwide. These UTS Representatives are more than happy to discuss study options available at UTS, and can assist you in processing your application.
To a UTS representative at a UTS International event:
Your application can also be submitted directly to a UTS representative at a UTS international event.
Step 6: Acknowledgement letter
You will receive a letter acknowledging receipt of your application approximately two weeks after your application is received by UTS.
The application procedure normally takes about four to six weeks and UTS International will advise you in writing whether your application is successful.
Step 7: Accepting an offer
If you have meet all specific requirements you will have recieved a letter of offer to study at UTS.
You will then need to accept the offer.
