The Faculty of Science offers innovative research and teaching disciplines such as traditional Chinese medicine, biotechnology and nanotechnology, as well as traditional areas of scientific pursuit including physical, chemical, environmental, biomedical, health and mathematical sciences. Courses are strongly linked to both industry and the community, and students are encouraged to undertake work that extends theory and brings about change in industry and the professions. Faculty staff are committed to providing high quality and innovative teaching. Subjects surveyed by students each semester show a high degree of satisfaction with the teaching experiences and facilities provided.
Working with Australian and international organisations, the Faculty seeks relevant, practical solutions to a range of scientific problems. Faculty staff are experts in their field and teach subjects that encourage critical thinking and participation in scientific investigation. Staff are active members of the scientific community and many are members of advisory bodies, editorial boards and community forums.
The Faculty encourages knowledge transfer from research projects to the classroom so that students are taught the latest, relevant scientific knowledge and techniques. The Faculty actively engages in community service activities such as National Science Week events, and conducts Media Science Forums and field days where communities and students collaborate on environmental issues.
