Entry requirements

UTS requires all Study Abroad applicants to meet:

Academic requirements

Students who have completed one full year or more of study at a recognised institution with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4 point scale may apply to join the UTS Study Abroad program.

Students who have not completed one full year at a recognised institution may also apply for admission if they meet university matriculation requirements.

English language proficency requirements

All UTS subjects are taught in English.

Previous education was been taught in English

If your previous education was taught in English, an official document from your institution certifying that the medium of instruction was English must be sent along with your application.

Previous education was NOT taught in English

If your previous education was not conducted in English, you are required to demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English comprehension and expression by completing an English language test.

Special consideration for English language requirements may be given to students who have completed Advanced level High School English studies, and have achieved one of the following English results:

  • Denmark : High School Leaving Certificate score of "9" or better for English
  • Germany : Arbitur score of "3" (befriedigend) or better in all advanced English studies. German students must also achieve 4 scores of "B" or better in the DAAD Certificate of Proficiency in English.
  • Norway : High School Leaving Certificate (Vitnemal): score of "4" or better for English
  • Sweden : High School Leaving Certificate (Slutbetyg): score of "VG" or better for English

Students who have achieved one of these English results are not required to provide an English language test result.

If you are from one of these countries you should provide a certified copy of your final high school grades with your study abroad application.

UTS accepts successful completion of one of the following for entry into the Study Abroad program:

Engineering programs

  • IELTS (Academic Strand)
    6.0 overall with a writing score of 6.0
  • TOEFL
    Paper Based : 550 overall with TWE of 4.5
    Computer Based : 213 overall with essay rating of 4.5
    Internet Based : 80 overall with a writing score of 21

For the English language requirements of Engineering programs studied in combination with programs offered by other UTS faculties, refer to the relevant test score required for all other programs.

All other programs

  • IELTS (Academic Strand)
    6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0
  • TOEFL
    Paper Based : 575 overall with TWE of 4.5
    Computer Based : 231 overall with essay rating of 4.5
    Internet Based : 90 overall with a writing score of 21

In some countries the Australian Embassy may have different English language requirements for those seeking a student visa. Check with your nearest Australian Diplomatic Post before registering for an English language test.
