Step 2: Select your subjects

In order to apply for the UTS Study Abroad program, you must first select subjects you wish to study at UTS. When selecting subjects, it is important to keep in mind how you will use the subjects for credit at your home institution. You should always check with your home institution's Study Abroad or academic adviser regarding the suitability of your subject selections.

You may study undergraduate subjects (Bachelor's degree level) or postgraduate subjects (Master's degree level). If you have not completed the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor's degree, you will not be able to undertake postgraduate subjects.

If a subject has prerequisites, you must demonstrate that you have the required knowledge based on previous studies. You will need to supply detailed subject outlines (in English) of the subjects you have already completed at your home institution.

You will also need to check when subjects are available by referring to the UTS timetable. Some subjects are offered only in March or in August but not in both semesters. Subjects in a few faculties are one year in duration and Study Abroad students studying these subjects enrol in March for the full year. Details of subjects are available on the UTS website at www.handbook.uts.edu.au/subjects/.

The UTS Class timetable is released in November ahead of each year. Please visit the UTS Timetable Builder website to ensure your chosen subjects are offered in the correct semester.

For each of your selected subjects, you should use the following checklist.

  • Is the subject undergraduate or postgraduate?
  • Does the subject have any prerequisites?
If so, can you prove that you have completed subjects similar to the prerequisites?
  • Is the subject offered in the correct semester?

Pre-departure and enrolling at UTS

All new Study Abroad students are required to enrol online prior to the start of their first semester at UTS. You will be given information about enrolment with your CoE. Changes to your enrolment may be requested at the start of each semester, however all changes are subject to approval and availability.

UTS cannot make final decisions about subject and class availability until the start of the semester. Places in popular professional subjects, such as those using technologybased media, cannot be guaranteed.

You should specify a range of alternative disciplinary subjects.

To ensure some flexibility with timetabling during enrolment, you should obtain approval in advance for five or six subjects per semester.

Further information is provided on the pre-departure section of this website.
