Computer laboratories

UTS students have access to general use computer laboratories with over 840 computers in 40 locations, as well as specialised faculty laboratories and library computer facilities. Most computer laboratories are open from 8am to 10pm, with some open 24 hours a day during semester periods.

Co-op Bookshop

The Co-op Bookshop (opens an external site) stocks textbooks for all UTS timetabled subjects. It also has a range of general titles, stationery, calculators and computer software.

Library

The University Library houses more than 650,000 books, journals and audiovisual items.

The Library's website is the primary source of electronic information, offering students and staff 24-hour global access to the UTS Library catalogue, Australian and international databases, more than 28,000 full-text journals, as well as theses, tutorials and much more.

Facilities include more than 370 computer terminals, laptop facilities and a wireless network, presentation and group discussion rooms, quiet study areas and the Scholar's Centre for postgraduate research students.

The Library offers specialised services to assist students from overseas and students whose first language is not English.

The Library runs training sessions to assist students in finding, using and organising information for their study and the International Librarian is available to provide additional learning support for students.

The International Cultural and News Centre (ICNC) and the ICNC website provide access to a rich resource of international newspapers, magazines, cultural books, travel guides and other media resources and are designed to help students keep up with international news and practise their language skills.

The Library's chinese webpages give access to a range of Chinese information resources and Chinese, Korean and Japanese software is installed on computers in the Library.

Religious facilities

A visiting chaplaincy is provided at UTS, located at City campus. Visiting chaplains represent various faiths and traditions such as Buddhist, Baha'i, Jewish, Muslim and various Christian denominations. Prayer rooms with washing facilities are available.

UTS Union Ltd

The UTS Union Ltd is the hub of University life at UTS.

They organise sporting, social and cultural programs, as well as provide catering and retail outlets on campus. These include a state-of-the-art gymnasium, convenience shops, eateries, a newsagency, semester parties, concerts, barbeques and an extensive recreation program that includes visits to popular tourist attractions across Australia.

  • Cafeterias

    The UTS Union has catering outlets on all campuses, offering a wide choice of freshly prepared meals, snacks and hot and cold drinks.

    Halal food

    A range of halal food products are available on UTS campuses. Also, a number of halal restaurants are located nearby. For Muslim students who wish to bring halal food to the University from home, the prayer room at the City campus is equipped with a refrigerator and microwave to store and reheat food.

  • Sport and recreation program and facilities

    If you prefer to spend your time skydiving, white-water rafting, horse-riding or mountain biking, the UTS Union's Recreation and Adventure programs are a great way to explore and make new friends outside the classroom. Catering to everyone from beginners to advanced adventurers, programs range from half-day excursions to 12-day trips.

    UTS excels in many sports and regularly has teams in national and international competitions. The world-class UTS Rowing Club is regarded as one of the best in Australia and has contributed many rowers to successful Australian Olympic and World Champion teams. The University is also successful in sports such as football, basketball, sailing and cricket, and regularly performs well in the annual Australian University Games and other inter-university competitions.

    For many UTS students, an active campus life includes exercise before or after classes. Students can work out in the UTS Union Fitness Centre at City campus. Recently expanded and refurbished, its facilities include the latest electronic exercise machines, fully equipped weights rooms, and an open air basketball court. The UTS Kuring-gai Sports Centre also offers extensive sporting facilities and activities.

    Both sports centres run daily fitness classes for people of all ability levels, while friendly, fully qualified staff are available to design a personalised program or provide advice on fitness matters. Pool and table tennis tables are also available for student use.

  • Students clubs

    UTS students can also choose from more than 100 clubs and societies covering many types of sporting, cultural and social activities. Joining a club or society is an excellent way to make friends and pursue new interests.
