Academic year
The academic year at UTS is divided into two semesters, each with 14 weeks of teaching:
- Autumn semester from February to June, and
- Spring semester from July to November.
UTS also has a number of teaching sessions, where some subjects are offered. Full details of all UTS teaching sessions are available in the UTS: Handbook. Completing subjects in teaching sessions is not compulsory but may allow you to complete your studies faster.
International students are advised to arrive in Sydney at least two weeks before classes commence in order to participate in the Orientation program, enrol in classes, and find and settle into suitable accommodation.

Autumn semester (February - June)
- 15 December 2010: Closing date for Autumn (March) semester 2011 coursework applications
- 14 - 25 February:Orientation week
- 28 February: Teaching commences
- 30 March: Closing date for Spring (August) semester 2011 research applications
- 25 - 29 April: Non-teaching week
- 30 April: Closing date for study abroad and exchange applications to study at UTS in Spring (July) 2011
- 10 June: Teaching ends
- 11 June - 1 July: Formal examinations period
- 15 June: Closing date for Spring (August) semester 2011 coursework applications
Spring semester (July - November)
- 25 - 29 July: Orientation week
- 1 August: Teaching commences
- 26 - 30 September: Non-teaching week
- 30 September: Closing date for Autumn (March) semester 2011 research applications*
- 11 November: Teaching ends
- 12 November - 2 December: Formal examinations period
- 30 November: Closing date for study abroad and exchange applications to study at UTS in Autumn (March) 2011
*Please note: if you are applying for an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship, you will need to submit your application by 19 August.
