Farewell Ceremony

UTS International conducts a farewell ceremony for departing international students at the end of each semester. This event is designed for students who are not able to stay on in Australia and attend their graduation.

It is a formal occasion with an academic procession and the departing students wear academic dress and are presented to the Vice-Chancellor.

The event is generally held in the afternoon, with afternoon tea following the formal ceremony. Departing students may invite friends and family to attend and celebrate the conclusion of their studies.

The farewell ceremony is not a graduation ceremony; students do not graduate, receive examination results, official transcripts or testamurs.

Students who expect to complete their studies will receive an invitation and information about the farewell ceremony, including the hiring of academic dress. This will be by email approximately 4 - 6 weeks prior to the ceremony date.

Students who intend to participate in the ceremony must confirm their attendance and organise their academic dress hire by the RSVP date.

A professional photographer takes photographs of the students as they are presented to the Vice-Chancellor. These photos can be ordered on the day.

There is an opportunity for one departing student to address the farewell ceremony, giving a brief (5 minutes) speech on their experience studying at UTS. If you are interested in being the student speaker at your ceremony, please contact UTS International.

The next ceremony is on 28th November.

A Returning Home: Strategies for Success session is conducted each semester. The session is generally scheduled in the morning of the international student farewell ceremony.
