Pre departure and arrival for AusAID sponsored students

Congratulations on receiving an offer to study at UTS!

The following information will assist you once you’ve accepted the offer to study at UTS as an AusAID sponsored student.

As an AusAID sponsored student, you will need to arrive at UTS much earlier than other international students, to attend a compulsory four to six week academic preparatory program - Introductory Academic Program (IAP).

Accommodation information

Temporary accommodation

UTS attempts to secure quality temporary accommodation close to UTS prior to your arrival to UTS. Hostel accommodation will generally be in single room and can cost from A$79 per night, with shared bathroom with travellers from around the world.

Temporary accommodation must be requested at least 1 week prior to your arrival and the arrival form must be emailed to the International Sponsored Students Team.

Long term accommodation

The UTS Housing Service provides a range of accommodation services for UTS students. These include information and assistance on UTS student residences and a range of short to long-term private accommodation options. Staff can also provide useful information on renting in the private market.

The UTS Housing Service website has listings and links that will give you information on the kind of accommodation available. It is a good idea to start thinking about long-term accommodation options before you arrive in Australia.

UTS student accommodation

The UTS Housing Service also has five residences available to UTS students. Each of these is located on or close to the City campus.

These residences are all secure and competitively priced. Most bedrooms are for one person, with shared kitchens, bathrooms and living areas. All apartments are fully-furnished and rent includes gas, electricity, water bills and internet access in communal areas.

You will need to provide your own bed linen and cooking equipment. Rent fees are different for each residence, and there are also non-refundable application fees.

For more information, please visit the UTS Housing website: www.housing.uts.edu.au

Airport reception

UTS can arrange airport pick-up for you if required. You will need to complete the arrival form and email it to sponsored.student@uts.edu.au at least 1 week prior to your arrival.

Note: the airport pick-up service is only available for AusAID sponsored students, this service is not available for family members if you are accompanied.

Once a booking is made, you are committed to that booking. For changes to your airport pick-up or accommodation needs (for example, if after sending the form, you arrange to be met by a friend in Sydney and/or to stay at their house), please email the International Sponsored Students Team immediately. This must be done at least 5 days prior to your arrival, so that arrangements can be amended. If cancellation or amendment is not given at least 5 days in advance, you will be responsible for all associated costs of that accommodation or airport pick-up.
