To send a message, use the Compose button or choose New / Message from the File menu.

A blank message appears in a new composition window. The top left section is used to add recipients for the email. The top right pane displays attachments for this message(you can add them by clicking in the pane). The bottom pane of the window is used for typing your message.

Recipients

The recipient of the message is specified with To. Type the email address of the recipient or their name from your address book. Netscape will try to locate the recipient in your address book. Netscape can also try to locate the recipient in the UTS Staff Directory if you have this configured. (see the FAQ under the headings "Configuring Netscape" and "How do I add the UTS Staff Directory to Netscape Mail and Newsgroups").

A single message can be sent to more than one person by entering mutliple To addresses.

Messages can be sent to related parties (like office memos) by specifying addresses as Cc (carbon-copy) or Bcc (blind-carbon-copy).  You can change whether the recipient is a To, Cc or Bcc. Bcc recipients will not be displayed to other recipients of the message.

Subject

Beneath these tabs is where you type the Subject of the message.  Keep this short and to the point.

Message

The body of the message is typed in the lower pane of the message window. You can format email messages using bold, italic, underline, etc. This will include HTML codes in your message (like a web page) however not all email readers can display HTML correctly. It is recommended that you only use this formatting if it is absolutely necessary and that if it is used a plain text version of the message should also be sent. You can tell Mail and Newsgroups to send both html and text copies by selecting "Format->Plain and Rich(HTML) Text" from the options menu of the compose window.

When you have finished composing your message click on the Send button.

If you want to save you message as a draft so you can send it later, choose Save As / Draft from the File menu.
