The basics

Firstly, this is a listserver - a server which coordinates the sending of email to a large group of people (a 'list'). Interested people can 'subscribe' themselves to these lists, and receive emails from that list. Some lists are intended for announcements, while others are for discussion amongst the list members themselves. You can subscribe by email by sending an email, or by visiting a web page and entering your email address. You can also view the past postings to many lists by visiting the archives.

Subscribing to a list

Self Service:

  • Firstly, you can visit the list's page within the List information section, and enter your email address into the appropriate box.
  • Alternatively you can send an email containing the work subscribe to listname-request@listserv.uts.edu.au

By the list Administrator: You may also be subscribed by your list administrator.

Once you have been subscribed you will receive messages intended for the mailing list until you unsubscribe.

Sending a message to the list

To send a message to a list simply address your mail to listname@listserv.uts.edu.au (where listname is the name of the list you'd like to 'post' to). Your message should be in plain text format and should be relevant to the list you're sending it to.

Unsubscribe Me!

To unsubscribe from a mailing list, simply send an email containing unsubscribe password to listname-request@listserv.uts.edu.au, where password is your password for this list, and listname is the name of the list you'd like to unsubscribe from.

I don't know my password

To obtain your password, send an email containing the word password to listname-request@listserv.uts.edu.au, where listname is the name of the list you're subscribed to.

I need to change my email address...

Simply follow the procedure for subscribing the new address and then unsubscribe your old email address, although it will be automatically unsubscribed if your old email address becomes undeliverable.
