7 Guidelines for
presenters
GUIDELINES FOR PRESENTERS
- Please note English is the official language
of the conference. However, it may be possible
to provide translators if participants wish to
present papers in a language other than English
and give sufficient notice of their request.
- All presenters at the conference will be
required to register as conference delegates.
- When preparing submissions please keep in
mind the international diversity of the
delegates attending the conference as well as
the mixture of students, academic and
non-academic staff.
- Where possible interpreters for the deaf and
hearing impaired will be provided. The sign
language of the conference will be Auslan.
- You are requested to nominate the preferred
size audience for your presentation and the
group/s it will be of most interest to e.g.
students, non-academic staff, all
GUIDE TO PRESENTATION FORMATS:
PAPER
A paper is most effectively presented as an oral
summary with occasional reference to notes or text.
It analyses something the presenter is doing or has
done in relation to theory and/or practice. The
presenter may have handouts and use audiovisual
aids.
POSTER
A poster is presented on a large display board
(dimensions will be sent with the acceptance
letter). It includes a title, the name and
institutional affiliation of the presenter(s), and
a brief text with clearly labeled photos, drawings,
graphs, charts etc. The poster could also be
presented in multi media format. The emphasis is on
visual presentation. The poster session allows for
informal discussion with conference delegates.
WORKSHOP
A workshop is activity-based. The facilitator works
with the group with a view to formulating ideas and
strategies to resolve a particular issue or engage
in discussion or experiential activities. The
emphasis is on the participants involvement
which is carefully structured by the facilitator.
There is minimal formal delivery by the
facilitator.
PANEL DISCUSSION
The facilitator takes responsibility for organising
a panel of speakers to address a certain theme.
Please include details of the proposed speakers on
your panel.
In whichever type of session you choose to
present, you are welcome to use a variety of
communication aids which may include slides,
Powerpoint, overheads, video segments, audio tape,
works of art etc.
LENGTH OF PRESENTATIONS
Papers:
Either 15 or 25 minutes in length (additional time
will be allocated for questions). Please nominate
your preferred timeframe.
Posters:
Themed poster sessions will be scheduled at
specified timeslots during the conference where
presenters will exhibit their work and be available
for discussion
Workshops and Panel
discussions:
75 minutes

Title Page
All contributions must be accompanied by the
attached Title Page.
Author/s
If there is more than one author please provide
details for all authors. Please underline the
name/s of the author/s presenting at the
conference.
Biographical details
Brief biographical details (maximum 100 words)
should accompany abstracts.
Abstracts
Maximum: 250 words
Margins: 2.5 cms all around
Font: 12 point Times Roman
Spacing: Single spaced
Abstracts can be submitted on disk* with hard
copy or sent as an email attachment. When
submitting on disk or emailing as an attachment,
save the document as Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or
Plain Text.
* Please label the disk with authorÍs name
and software used

abstracts/contributions
Friday 16 January 1998
Conference Publication
Selected papers will be published in an edited
conference proceedings. Other contributions may be
published electronically on the conference web site
with the author/s permission.
Acceptance
You will be notified of the outcome of your
submission in February 1988.
