Childcare Subsidy for Low Income Students
Information for Spring Semester 2005
Each year UTS assists students by providing financial assistance to help with the cost of UTS childcare.
To be considered, students need to demonstrate ongoing financial hardship and provide documentary evidence to support their claim.

How does the subsidy work?
The childcare subsidy assists with costs for children in UTS Childcare Centres:

The subsidy is awarded on a semester-to-semester basis. There is no guarantee that recipients will continue to receive the subsidy if their financial circumstances change.
A subsidy cheque is issued to students at the end of the semester. There are a limited number of subsidies available.
Who Can Apply?
Local and international students, who can demonstrate ongoing financial hardship, are eligible to apply.
How to apply
UTS Childcare Inc. (the management body for all UTS childcare centres) sends Childcare Subsidy Application Forms to parents whose child or children have a confirmed place in UTS childcare in the following semester.
Application forms are also available from your UTS Childcare Centre, and completed applications are to be returned to your UTS Childcare Centre.
Applications must include:
- Copies of documentary evidence of low income, for example:
Centrelink benefits e.g. Childcare Benefit Statement (CCB), Youth Allowance, Newstart Allowance, Disability Support Pension, Child Care Benefit , Community Development Employment Program payments; - Scholarship documentation e.g Australian Development Scholarships (AusAID), Country of Origin government scholarships; United Nations scholarships, Asian Development Bank scholarships (W.H.O.); International Post Graduate Research Scholarships;
- Most recent Income Tax Return;
- Most recent three bank and credit card statements;
- Rental agreement, if relevant;
- Low income documentation of parents/guardian, if relevant;
- Personal Budget, as per application form; and a
- Personal Statement, as per application form.
Closing Dates for applications
Two rounds of applications are held each year in March and August.
Who decides?
All applications are considered by a committee (quorum of 3) which includes representatives from UTS Childcare Inc.; the UTS Equity & Diversity Unit; the Financial Assistance Officer (UTS Special Needs Service) and a representative from UTS Students Association.
Notification
Students are notified in a timely manner following the committee decision that they are to receive the subsidy .
