Scholarships and grants

UTS and the Australian Government want to encourage students to undertake some of their studies overseas, and are offering scholarships and grants to help cover some of the costs associated with overseas study. Additional funding options are available for students who undertake studies in Asia and the Indo Pacific. These grants may also be supplemented with funding for language study prior to departure.

New Colombo Mobility Program

The Australian Government's New Colombo Plan Mobility Program (opens an external site) provides grants to encourage Australian students to undertake study in the Indo-Pacific region.

UTS students who apply to the UTS Global Exchange Program will automatically be considered for these grants; therefore no separate application is required. Where the number of eligible students exceeds the number of available grants, the grants will be allocated to the students with the highest WAMs.

New Colombo Plan Mobility Grants

UTS has received the following grants for students who wish to commence exchange in UTS Autumn Session 2018.

  • Vietnam - $7000 x 5 (+5x internship grants valued at $1000 each)
  • Thailand - $7000 x 4
  • Japan - $7000 grant x 7 (+5 internship grants valued at $1000 each)
  • South Korea - $7000 grant x 8 (+5 internship grants valued at $1000 each)
  • Singapore - $7000 grants x 8
  • Hong Kong - $7000 grant x 8
  • ACICIS (The Australian Consortium for ‘In-Country’ Indonesian Studies) (opens an external site) - $5000 grant x 6

Australia Awards Endeavour Mobility Grants 

International Student Exchange Program

The International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) (opens an external site) provides grants for students to undertake mobility projects overseas and to support overseas study experiences to diversify students programs with innovative options in non-traditional destinations.
 
Students applying to the UTS Global Exchange Program will automatically be considered for these grants and no separate application is required.   • Finland - $5000 grant x2
 

Endeavour Cheung Kong Student Exchange Program

The Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Student Exchange Program supports undergraduate students from Australia and Asia to study in each other’s home environments by providing subsidies for student exchange, predominantly through links with institutions in mainland China and Hong Kong SAR.
 
Students applying to the UTS Global Exchange Program will automatically be considered for these grants and no separate application is required.   • Macau - $5000 grant x2
  • PRC - $5,000 x 9

UTS Scholarships and Grants

Dr Chau Chak Wing Scholarship

The Dr Chau Chak Wing Scholarship (Undergraduate and Postgraduate Exchange & Study Abroad) offers UTS students the opportunity to undertake one session of study at a university in China. Each year, two scholarship recipients will each receive a one-off payment of $10,000.

UTS Global Exchange grants

UTS offers Global Exchange grants to assist UTS students with some of the costs of going on exchange. The grants are allocated according to several criteria including WAM, destination and length of exchange.

UTS:BUiLD travel grants

If you are interested in short-term overseas experiences generally, make sure you also check out opportunities through UTS:BUiLD, UTS’s international leadership and development program.  Join BUiLD to take part in campus events, volunteering and networking opportunities, conferences, internships and study tours. Approved international activities through UTS:BUiLD may be supported by a BUiLD Travel Grant.

Loans and payments

In addition to the scholarships and grants on offer, you can also apply for a loan to help you with the cost of going on exchange. You may also be eligible for payments from Centrelink. Find out more about loans and payments.
