"I applied for the BUiLD program because I thought it would offer a huge range of experiences and opportunities outside of the ordinary university environment. With its orientation towards leadership I believe the program will add significant value to my learning experience at UTS and provide me with skills that I take forward both in my career and personal life.
"The program also provides a great platform to foster inter-faculty relationships, as it is offered to every student at UTS. I was drawn to this aspect as creating a leadership group representative of the entire UTS student body was something I really wanted to be a part of.
"The program’s flexibility is a great thing. There is an extremely diverse range of options from which to choose and to approach the leadership experience.
"In adding value to the program, I hope to fully engage in the range of activities offered. I hope to form lasting inter-faculty relationships with students in the BUiLD group. I believe the greatest value from this program will be achieved if I am completely submerged in the leadership experience.
"By developing my own leadership ability and seeking to add value as a member of the program, this will create value for the university. I hope to be an advocate for the benefits of undertaking BUILD, fostering a respect and value for the program.
"Hugh Evans’ talk on the Global Poverty Project was truly inspiring. To meet an individual driven by the utmost passion for helping those in need was a great experience. He demonstrates how all individuals should make a concerted effort to make the world a better place for all members of the global society. The power of youth leadership was another significant message given by this presentation.
"John Anderson, founder of Contiki Tours, showed the need for continuous innovation in everything you do in order to achieve success that is sustainable. As an individual, student or business, John showed how leaders always seek to improve and inspire their peers. As a business student this presentation resonated with me as John spoke of the dimensions in a successful company. John was also a great advocate of the power given to leaders in being able to passionately communicate your ideas. He also demonstrated how leaders in a particular field utterly believe in what they do.
"The BUiLD seminars are a great way to focus your learning in specific areas. The seminars have been focused on issues pertinent to our generation. It was great to learn about issues such as global poverty, migration, cultural cohesion, urbanization and sustainable population growth. What was also great was the discussion each seminar evoked on the potential solutions leaders need to be looking for.
"The program is a great platform for each student to become a leader in his or her respective field. The experiences and opportunities add significant value to your employment prospects as they create a diverse and well-rounded resume. Employment in any field sees leadership as a key competency."
