UTS Union Competition
If you member a while back, in my previous post Blurt 2, I mentioned the annual UTS Union Art, Photography and Diary cover competition. When I knew about the competition, it was just a day before the submission deadline! Thought I’d give it a go and make an entry in the photography category, since it was too late to draft a conceptual diary cover design. The limit was 3 photos per students for each category; wished I could submit more, but those were the rules which eventually did not matter as I had my share of recognition!
After receiving an email stating I won a prize in the competition; I was thrilled to pass by the Union’s office to collect my cheque and to find out that I won both 1st and second prize in the photography category! How cool is that!?!? Three entries, two winners, both first and second… Awesome!!!
"Famous Tree of Gold", Haymarket, China Town. You probably pass it almost everyday, yet, very few may see it the way I framed it and perceived it. That little cloud is just in the right place to contrast with the blue background as well as with the tree and the bright gold on its tips.
"Red Installation", Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi Beach. You’ve got to love Sculpture by the Sea; it has been the centre of attraction of many of my photos on my Flickr Photostream. This one was from last year and its scale is quite huge; those red stings covered a massive rock, just off the coastal walk between Bondi and Tamarama.
The third photo submitted was "Lonely Balcony", a shot somewhere in Sydney CBD, I can't recall the place, apologies!
Don’t spare your art, design or photography for next year’s competition. The prizes are great and the winner of the diary cover would get his/her design published on 2007 UTS Diary and distributed to all students!
