Reminiscing high school
I’m currently working on a business report for a subject I study - ‘Managing Information’ and it got me thinking about assessments in high school. I remember having exams after every topic studied. Things all seemed to be in smaller portions, although then, it seemed like really big exams. I think the biggest difference between tertiary education and secondary education is the independence each student has to take in ensuring their progress in learning and in gaining knowledge.
Lately I’ve been trying to work update my resume. I haven’t touched that thing for more than a year. I think it reflects everything I know and that is difficult to track because I’ve done so much in the past year. Identifying your own skills and knowledge is difficult because it requires a critical and honest analysis of what you have done, in each subject, what you truly have taken away and understood, and what skills you have gained in completing the task.
Further, when you’re in school, both secondary and tertiary, you get into a routine, and forget that you have to get out there one day without that routine and just work. Updating my resume is that threshold – it’s the first step, and it’s a difficult one.
