The City campus is located less than half an hour's bus or train ride from some of the most interesting parts of Sydney...
There's always something happening in Newtown. People come from all over Sydney to eat and people-watch in the endless cafés, restaurants and shops along King Street. In the summer there's a huge festival with local live bands and performers, food from cuisines all over the world, and stalls for clothing, art, music, politics...
Newtown is just a short bus ride from City campus. Every kind of person you can imagine lives there, from students and artists to families and yuppies, and it's a centre for Sydney's queer culture. It's a real multicultural community.
Glebe is another inner city suburb, about 10 minutes on the bus from City campus. Its streets are lined with cafés, restaurants, bookshops and fruit and vegetable shops. It's like a village with inner city energy. And every Saturday, you can buy second hand clothes, pot plants and jewellery at the bohemian Glebe markets.
Ultimo and Chippendale are handy residential suburbs tucked in and around the City campus. UTS provides some student accommodation in Ultimo in 'Bulga Ngurra', a converted warehouse, and in Chippendale in 'Geegal', a set of townhouses. From either suburb it's a 10 or 15 minute walk to UTS, and an easy walk to Central railway and bus interchange, China Town, Darling Harbour or into Sydney's central business district.
