Cost of books
The costs of books varies depending on your degree program. UTS has estimated that text books for a year may cost several hundred dollars. It is advisable for students to buy at a minimum the core text books suggested by their lecturers and reading lists.
Child care
For those new students who require child care, there are a range of facilities which cater for children of different ages. Child care in NSW and Australia is expensive and there are waiting lists for children of all ages. UTS has several child care centres which cater for infants and children up to 5 years of age.
Entertainment
Entertainment in Sydney is as cheap or as expensive as one can afford. Events such as the Festival of Sydney, held in January, provide opportunities to explore cultural and artistic aspects of Australia through inexpensive or free entertainment.
You will also find many entertainment opportunities provided by the UTS Union. This is an "unincorporated association" within the University designed to ensure that your 'education' at UTS offers much more than just your degree. There are many social, cultural and sporting groups at UTS which offer activities for students.
For those who feel disoriented when first arriving in Sydney, we would suggest a trip on the bus 'Sydney Explorer'. A day pass will take you, at your leisure, to see Sydney's top sights. Tickets may be pre-booked with the Tourism New South Wales.
