Building strategic, high quality institutional research linkages with partner institutions overseas is a key component of UTS's Internationalisation Strategy and central for UTS to achieve its vision of becoming "a world leading university of technology".

In 2010, UTS launched the 'Key Technology Partnerships' (KTP) strategy aimed at establishing a selected number of flagship institution-to-institution partnerships with a focus on research collaboration and joint research training. The KTP Program provides an effective means for building significant and enduring broad-based international engagement by focusing on developing research capabilities, enhancing UTS and its partner's profile and reputation, furthering intercultural understanding and competencies of staff and students, and providing potential sources of research funding.

In 2010 the first four KTP partnerships with leading universities in the Greater China region were established: Beijing University of Technology (BIT); Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Wuhan; Shanghai University (SU) and Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) with further partnerships to be established in India, Europe, North America, South-East Asia and Japan.

The partnerships agreements provide joint-badging of PHD and postgraduate degree programs, joint research collaboration; cross institutional teaching and enhanced credit transfer between institutions; and flexible arrangements for student and staff mobility between institutions.

To service our KTP program UTS established its first overseas representative presence in Beijing in January 2011 and its second office in New Delhi in June 2011.
