Selected measures of student diversity
Consistent with official enrolment numbers 31st October 2007.
- Some 50% of enrolments were females.
- The Faculties with the largest proportion of females in 2007 were Nursing, Midwifery and Health, Humanities and Social Sciences and Education.
- About 31% of students nominated a language background other than English in 2007.
- UTS students spoke a wide variety of languages, with more than 114 non-English languages amongst the student body in 2007. The largest language groups were Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese and Arabic.
- The UTS city campus is close to central station, thus accessible from all areas in Sydney served by the rail system. Reflecting this central location, the areas of home residence of UTS students were fairly evenly distributed around the Sydney Metropolitan Area.
- As a result of the high number of International Students and the multicultural population of Sydney, 51% of UTS students were born outside Australia.
- Some 697 students reported having a disability, with a wide range of disabilities including medical, visual, learning, hearing and mobility problems.
