Demand across all universities

  • The pool of applicants for undergraduate courses for all Universities through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) has grown by 4% between 2006 and 2008. This was evident for both school leavers and non school leavers.
  • The growth areas across all Universities over the last three years were Health, Engineering and Architecture and Building.
  • Across all Universities there has been a reduction in demand for Agriculture and Environmental Studies and Education courses.

Demand for UTS

  • At UTS, the Faculties of Business, Science and Design, Architecture and Building attracted the most UAC applications in 2008.
  • 3 of the state's top 10 highest UAI cut-offs were UTS courses.
  • UTS attracted the highest number of first preference applications for Creative Arts, Information Technology and Management and Commerce courses in the state. Creative Arts courses include the Bachelor of Design courses offered by the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building and the Bachelor of Arts (Communications) courses offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • UTS attracted the second highest number of first preferences in the fields of Architecture and Building.
  • Reflecting the central locations of UTS campuses, applicants for UTS courses came from all areas of Sydney.

Pathways to UTS

  • Despite the high demand, there are other ways to get into UTS courses. About 47% of UTS offers in 2008 were made to applicants who were not local school leavers. These students come from a variety of backgrounds including TAFE and Insearch Institute.
