The Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Ross Milbourne, is the University's Chief Executive Officer. He is responsible to the UTS Council for the effective management of the University. Professor Milbourne's role includes:

Ross Milbourne

  • building and maintaining strong working relationships with the UTS Council
  • the strategic positioning of UTS and building the external profile of the University, both in Australia and internationally
  • developing and communicating a clear vision for UTS and inspiring the University community to work together to achieve strategic objectives
  • establishing broad planning targets and priorities
  • building a strong and united senior executive team
  • defining annually the strategic change priorities to be progressed by each member of the executive
  • working to ensure the University acquires the necessary public and private resources to underpin the successful achievement of the University's goals and objectives
  • playing a leading role in the development of public higher education policy in Australia
  • pursuing the interests of UTS at the highest levels of government, industry and the community

Professor Milbourne received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of NSW, and his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. His interests have been in the general area of macroeconomics and, in particular, the mathematical modelling and statistical testing of macroeconomic theories. During the last decade his research has focused on economic growth in open economies - economies that allow free international movement of goods and capital.

His previous appointments include Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of New South Wales, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Adelaide and Chair of the Research Grants Committee of the Australian Research Council.

Professor Milbourne's committees are:

  • Senior Executive Meetings (SEM). SEM is the Vice-Chancellor's management committee, which is held weekly, and comprises the Vice-Chancellor and his Senior Executive. The Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellors sponsor agenda items from their portfolio, of strategic importance to the University and the higher education sector
  • Vice-Chancellor's Committee (VCC). VCC provides a forum for communication and the exchange of ideas among the senior managers of the University. Meetings are held six times a year, and membership comprises the Senior Executive, Deans, the University Librarian, Registrar, and Chair of Academic Board
  • Senior Leaders' Group (SLG). SLG enables the Vice-Chancellor to receive advice from and communicate to a wider group of senior management. SLG meetings are held two to three times each year, and membership comprises VCC members plus Directors who report to members of the Senior Executive
