On 24 October 2007, the UTS Council determined that from 1 July 2008:
- a new Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is to be established in place of the current Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education and Institute for International Studies; and
- a new Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology is to be established in place of the current Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Information Technology.
Council's decision follows on from the major Review of UTS Academic Structures initiated by the Vice-Chancellor at the beginning of 2007.
The Academic Structures Review final report (PDF 284k - internal access only) proposed a number of changes to the academic structure of UTS as well as other recommendations to increase synergies within and between faculties. Prior to making final recommendations to Council, the Vice-Chancellor also considered an Impact Assessment Report (PDF 264k - internal access only).
Details of the objectives, terms of reference and major review steps are available in the project brief (PDF 52k - internal access only). Broad structure models prepared by the Academic Structures Review Working Group as a focus for consultation and discussion are detailed in the discussion paper (PDF 664k - internal access only) on UTS academic structures. Feedback on the discussion paper and other advice from the UTS community was used in the working group's development of the final recommendations.
