Our extensive research tells us that students today prefer a more central location where they have easy access to part-time work and accommodation, so since 2003 UTS has been considering the changes that need to take place at its Lindfield-based campus to ensure we continue to provide all its students with the best possible teaching, learning and research experiences.
In June 2008, the NSW Minister for Planning approved the University's Kuring-gai Campus (Lindfield) rezoning application and concept plan. At the end of December 2009, the NSW Minister for Education, Verity Firth, approved the sale of lands zoned ‘residential’ on the site, and expressed an interest in acquiring the existing educational component.
More recently (December 2010), UTS sold its residential land in Lindfield to Defence Housing Australia (DHA) (opens an external site). The Sulman Award winning UTS campus buildings and the land on which they stand were not affected by the sale – they remain UTS owned and operated.
Proceeds of the sale will be reinvested into the University’s campus redevelopment program – a program that includes the continued improvement of the Lindfield-based campus. The $1 billion UTS City Campus Master Plan alone is expected to deliver more than $3.2 billion in state-wide economic activity.
