UTS is well on its way to becoming a world-leading university of technology. Three years into our 10-year strategic plan – Own the Future – we have advanced a number of key infrastructure projects as part of our City Campus redevelopment.

Our goal is to build a world-class, state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly campus that offers staff and students an experience like no other.

Importantly, we seek to offer exceptional teaching, learning and discovery experiences to all staff and students at UTS. In order to achieve this goal, we aim to transfer our teaching and learning activities from Lindfield to the city. While the proposed amalgamation is some years away, it will in all likelihood be undertaken in late-2015.

The road to a united campus will be marked by a number of key milestones. By 2015, UTS will have completed a number of key City Campus Master Plan projects including:

  • its new, subterranean Multi-purpose Sports Hall (opened earlier this year)
  • the refurbishment of the Great Hall in the UTS Tower – the focal point for ceremonial events such as graduations, as well as key public engagement activities such as UTS Open Day and our flagship public lecture series UTSpeaks (scheduled for completion by the end of Spring Semester 2011)
  • a new 700+ bed student accommodation facility (opened six months ahead of schedule in mid-2011)
  • its new, state-of-the-art Broadway Building that will become home to the Faculty of Engineering and IT
  • the new, Gehry-designed, Dr Chau Chak Wing building for the UTS: Business School
  • the Thomas Street Building – an extension to the existing Science buildings

Lindfield

June 2008 marked our first major Kuring-gai Campus (Lindfield) milestone, when the lands surrounding the campus buildings were rezoned for residential use.

Most recently – and significantly – these residential lands were sold to Defence Housing Australia (DHA). DHA’s main role is to provide housing for Australian Defence Force members and their families.  The sale is great news for UTS. DHA is a developer of the highest calibre, a trusted government business enterprise, and a first-rate neighbour for UTS and local Lindfield residents.

The road to 2015

There is much to be achieved between now and when we amalgamate our teaching and learning activities in the city. As such, UTS will continue to offer all of the courses currently available to students undertaking their studies at UTS Kuring-gai (Lindfield).

While most current students will complete their studies at Lindfield, some current students (and many future students) can look forward to commencing their studies in Lindfield and earning their highly-prized UTS degrees in the city at what is shaping up to be the finest university campus in Australia.

UTS is well on its way to owning the future.
